This is the operating system home users have been waiting for because it offers serious speed and serious stability, so you can have serious fun. Tests by a leading research lab prove that Windows XP makes your computer significantly easier and faster to use than earlier versions of Windows. Windows XP makes it easier to find information, files, and programs, and more quickly accomplish tasks, such as customizing computer settings, using, storing, and printing files and documents. In tests using Windows XP Professional, participants successfully completed 25.29 percent more tasks than those using Windows 2000 Professional, on average. Participants using Windows XP Home Edition also successfully completed 17.72 percent more tasks than participants using Windows Millennium Edition, on average. Additionally, participants who successfully completed tasks with Windows XP did so more quickly, on average, than those who successfully completed the same tasks with Windows 2000 or Windows Me. At its usability laboratory in Concord, Mass., the American Institutes for Research (AIR) conducted two studies for Microsoft, comparing the usability of Windows XP with Windows 2000 Professional and Windows Millennium Edition. In each test, 36 people attempted common computing tasks. The task times, task success, and the participants' paths toward success or failure were recorded. The results show that the Windows XP interface was more usable than Windows 2000 and Windows Me, most noticeably for Novices. Beginners and Intermediates also completed the majority of tasks with greater success and speed with Windows XP than they did with Windows 2000 and Windows Me. The following table shows the key areas in which Windows XP was shown to improve the usability success rate for test participants. Note: We do no
